When Titleist golf ball loyalist Ian Poulter wins, he does so in grand style. His performance at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship was no exception. Trusting the Pro V1x for his success, Poulter swept through six world-class opponents en route to his first World Golf Championship crown and ninth career victory, all of which have been achieved with a Titleist golf ball. The win launched him to a career-best No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Poulter (Pro V1x) captured the biggest victory of his career with a 4 and 2 victory in the 36-hole final of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Poulter’s victory capped a dominant display throughout the tournament and this dominance was highlighted by the fact that he trailed for just one hole over the final 50 holes of the tournament. Poulter’s win marks his first PGA Tour victory to go along with his eight European Tour titles. Fellow Titleist golf ball player Camilo Villegas (Pro V1) just missed out on the championship match after being edged out in a semi final that went 24 holes, the longest match of the week. Villegas regrouped to win the third place match in convincing fashion, recording a 5 and 4 margin of victory.
Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship with 28 players placing their trust in the superior performance of Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than three times the nearest competitor with 9. Titleist also tied for first in iron sets; was first in sand, lob and approach wedges and tied for first in putters.
Elsewhere in the US, Bernhard Langer (Pro V1) holed a bunker shot for eagle on the first playoff hole to capture the Allianz Championship title on the Champions Tour. Further afield Titleist golf ball loyalist Michiel Bothma (Pro V1x) holed a 30-foot putt for birdie on the final green to clinch victory at the Telkom PGA Championship in South Africa whilst Colombia’s David Vanegas (Pro V1x) couldn’t have chosen a better setting for his first win as a professional, as he provided a dominating final day performance in his native Colombia to win the Abierto Internacional de Golf II Copa Antioquia in Rionegro, a co-sanctioned Canadian Tour event. These victories have now taken Titleist’s 2010 worldwide golf ball win tally to 19 compared to just 3 for the nearest competitor.
Ian Poulter’s impressive WGC victory in addition to further victories across worldwide professional tours provides further proof that the game’s elite continue to opt for the consistency and performance of Titleist.
