With 2010 coming to an end, FootJoy, the #1 Shoe and Glove in Golf, is able to reflect on yet another highly successful year on the European Tour, with an average of 63.5% of players at any European Tour event choosing the comfort and stability of FootJoy shoes, compared to just 20.4% for its nearest competitor. FootJoy was also accountable for 61.7% of all top ten finishes, which is almost four times that of its nearest competitor, as well as amassing a total of 23 tournament victories. The impressive 2010 figures highlight the brand’s continued popularity amongst the game’s best players.
In one of the most memorable seasons in European Tour history, FootJoy ambassadors secured some of the year’s most revered titles; Lee Westwood led the way with a string of incredibly consistent performances, as the Englishman’s stellar year ended holding the World’s #1 Ranking. After a stunning display at the highly anticipated 150th Anniversary Open Championship at St.Andrews in July, South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen blitzed the field, finishing an astonishing 7 strokes clear of second place to claim his maiden major championship. The charismatic Ian Poulter also had a breakout year, with victory in the WGC Accenture Matchplay Championship, which propelled the Ryder Cup hero to a career high 5th in the Official World Golf Rankings. European #1 in 2008, Robert Karlsson, added to an impressive array of tournament victories, as the tall Swede claimed the lucrative season-ending Dubai World Championships; while FootJoy’s young stars, including Matteo Manassero and Rory McIlroy, continued to display their potential. Manassero was crowned European Tour Rookie of the Year, after becoming the tour’s youngest-ever winner at 17 years old with victory in the Castello Masters, and Ryder Cup star Rory McIlroy, furthered his reputation amongst the World’s elite, contending at both the Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
“This year has been one of FootJoy’s most successful European Tour seasons ever, with FJ ambassadors experiencing major success, a WGC victory, and even a World #1 Ranking. We’ve also launched the brand-new FJ DryJoys Tour and FJ Layering System, enjoyed a highly successful and interactive ‘MyJoys May’ promotion at the BMW PGA Championship, and introduced a wider variety of sizes, styles and models across the entire FJ range. Whether it is established FootJoy loyalists like Westwood and Poulter or the new crop of talented youngsters like McIlroy and Manassero, we have a FootJoy shoe to suit all individual tastes and performance needs,” commented Richard Fryer, European Marketing Manager, FootJoy.
Whether it is the all round excellence of the all-new FJ ICON™, the reliability and consistent performance of new DryJoys Tour™, or the sports performance of the FJ Sport™, FootJoy remains the overwhelming favourite for golfers of all abilities around the world.
