The undoubted highlight from last week’s tournament golf was Michael Sim’s exciting leap to the PGA Tour by virtue of his third win on the Nationwide Tour this season. The exciting young Australian who uses a full bag of Titleist clubs, the Pro V1X ball and FJ shoes has leapt to #57 in the world rankings and looks set to make a big splash on the PGA Tour and in the majors in future seasons. Remember his name, Michael is a Titleist/FJ ambassador who will contend for major honours in the next few years. 10 of the top 12 finishers at the Christmas in October Classic used a Titleist ball.
Another Titleist/FJ staffer, Jason Bohn (Pro V1X), went close at the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship losing out in a play-off to Ryan Moore (Callaway) who earned his first career victory.
On the European Tour, Peter Lawrie (Pro V1X) was another unlucky loser in a playoff missing out to Simon Dyson (Nike) who won the KLM Dutch Open for the second time in four years. Our highlight in Holland was the number of players switching to the new 710 series irons, including Brett Rumford, Callum Macaulay and Robert Dinwiddie. Watch out for their names in the coming weeks as they work the features of the new irons into their games.
In ladies’ golf, the USA team lifted the Solheim Cup for the 8th time out of 11 defeating the European team 16-12 at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois. Titleist was the most played ball with 14 players choosing a Pro V1 or Pro V1X including five members of the winning team.
Elsewhere around the world, there were wins for Mike Reid (Pro V1) on the Champions Tour, lifting his second career major at the Tradition and for Hiroyuki Fujita at the Kansai Open in Japan.
This week, the European Tour heads to the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles where a number of our staffers will be in action using the new series of Titleist irons.
